The mandate of the Working Group on Regulatory Use of PSA functioning in frame of the WWER Regulators Forum for the fourth period (2014-2017) is coordinated by Hungary. Tasks of forth period activities of the PSA WG are selected based on the discussions within PSA WG and with the approval of VVER Forum board meeting. Following main issues were agreed to be covered for the fourth period of the PSA WG:

  • External hazards PSA
  • Risk informed decision making
  • PSA and Reliability Centred Maintenance

The main objective of PSA WG fourth period
activities is to provide recommendations to WWER Regulatory Forum Board based on comparison of national practices in above mentioned fields and thorough analysis of Fukushima lessons learned in terms of PSA. The work within PSA WG is organized in the form of regular meetings, questionnaires or national reports, information exchange, discussions and final report development. The final product of PSA WG activity is final report with detailed information on the analysis performed and recommendations to WWER Regulatory Forum Board.

The objective of the WG is to exchange information on reactor physics aspects of WWER among the regulator experts analysis by computer codes.

The following aspects are considered as mandate for the WG: verification of reactor physics related computer codes with actual commissioning test data (benchmark exercises); exchange of information on commissioning tests.

Topical issues proposed for WG consideration: general regulatory requirements concerning ageing management, requirements and practice of Periodic Safety Reviews use, list of degradation mechanisms, which shall be taken into account, rare or unusual degradation mechanisms found at NPP SSC,  Techniques used for environmental conditions and loads monitoring in order to residual life of SSC prediction, AMPs for specified types of equipment (RPVs, steam generators, pressurizers, heat exchangers, filters, valves, pumps, piping, etc.), ageing management of electric cables.
